The improved PC version is out!
Hi everyone!
Aereven Advance was quite the experiment for me: making a sequel to Aereven Lunar Wake in only a couple of months for the Gameboy Advance of all platforms? That sure was a challenge, but I loved every minute of it and I'm quite proud of the result!
But I still have to admit the time constraint and the whole homebrew-for-a-retro-console angle kinda limited what I could do with the game. That's why halfway through the jam I swore to myself I would do an improved PC version afterward.
Now I'm glad to announce this new version is done: Legends of Aereven: Sleeping Azure is out!
So what does that version changes, compared to the GBA game?
Obviously, the graphics got a big glow up. The game is now rendered in 720p instead of 160p, with more colors, lighting effects and animations. But it's not all techs, you will quickly notice the environments are way less blocky and more detailed.
Sound effects have been improved, music tracks added, the inventory menu feels nicer to use, some character got illustrated portraits, I think you got the gist.
What's more important is the added content.
And there's ton of it.
The game is twice as long thanks to new towns, islands, items, side quests, etc. Even the content that was already there got extended. Dungeons are significantly longer and more complex. The story about the Three Heroes is now a tragic tale you can uncover instead of merely hints you got in-passing. It's like Aereven Advance was merely an outline for Sleeping Azure.
So even if you already played the GBA version to completion (maybe even reaching the true ending!), Sleeping Azure will surprise you. It's a brand new game sharing only broad strokes with its predecessor.
So... check it out? It's free.
