Starfall Advance is a free monster-catching RPG (think Pokémon) for the Game Boy Advance, set in a fictional version of southern France.

Enter a world of Spirits

Five years after two comets collided in the sky, ghostly monsters called Spirits are everywhere. Those who can see and commune with them are called Mediums.

Just out of a job, you enlist as a Medium with the Starfall Institute to help research this phenomenon. But before you can enter Ground Zero, where the debris of the comets rest, you must first prove your worth by challenging the eight Lab Officers for their badges.

Explore the world and catch new Spirits, train them in battle against other Mediums and evolve them to unlock their full potential. Meet colorful characters and fight corruption on your quest to uncover the truth about Ground Zero and the origins of Spirits.

About this game

This game was made in three months for the GBA Jam 2026 game jam, starting almost from scratch and entirely handcrafted by a single developer (me!).

Reaching the ending requires 5~6 hours of gameplay, but going for full completion will keep you busy for a couple more. There's 84 creatures to collect... officially ;).

While this game is heavily inspired by the Pokémon series (especially the first two generations), all code and content is original and some mechanics differ. The story and characters are also a bit more mature, the perfect fit for working adults who grew up playing the series.

How to play?

This is an actual Game Boy Advance game! You can either play it on hardware thanks to a flashcart (eg: EZ Flash) or with an emulator (like mGBA).

This game was tested on Game Boy Advance SP, Nintendo DS Lite and mGBA.
